What's the Story?

DE LA CALLE follows music journalist Nick Barili as he delves into Latino culture's influence on hip-hop. Coming from Argentina to the United States as a child, hip-hop has been in Barili's blood his entire life. After seeing a gap in recognition and credits on how Latino artists have shaped hip-hop, Barili set out on a quest to speak to legends and pioneers in the industry. From archival footage, in-depth interviews, and parts of his own story, Barili travels far and wide to show that Latinos have been in hip-hop since the beginning.

This fun, insightful series is a DJ set, history lesson, and documentary rolled into one. In De La Calle Nick Barili upholds authenticity, especially as he folds his own story into this music mix. The combination of education and entertainment is well blended -- it's fast-paced but has easy narratives to follow. The strong repetitive language makes this suitable for older teens.
