What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Detective Conan: The Culprit Hanzawa is a comedy anime spin-off based on the popular Detective Conan manga series. This anime centers around an inept criminal who moves to a big city to become a criminal mastermind. Expect to see fantasy violence (physical violence, blood, and dead bodies). There are quick flashbacks to murder scenes that show a man with a knife in his back, a woman hanging, and a woman with a broken back. Another scene shows a man struck in the head with a statue and some blood is shown. The main character sometimes imagines hurting people. These scenes are played for comedy and not too serious or gory. There's some partial nudity throughout. The main character is depicted as a shadowy humanoid silhouette that appears nude. Language includes "idiot," "stupid," "damn," "bastards," and "hell." There are some adult characters shown drinking and smoking cigarettes at a house party.

What's the Story?
DETECTIVE CONAN: THE CULPRIT HANZAWA follows the story of Hanzawa (voiced by Max Mittelman) an inept criminal from the country who moves to Beika City in hopes of becoming a criminal mastermind. Beika City has the highest crime rate in the world and is the location of the man Hanzawa has a grudge against. Hanzawa thinks Beika is the perfect city to murder him while also making his mark as a genius criminal. However, Hanzawa is inept and cowardly, and is more often scared of any actual crimes taking place in the city.
Is It Any Good?
This dark comedy series manages to still be funny on its own despite being a spin- off. That said, Detective Conan: The Culprit Hanzawa is still a show that's best for fans of the popular Detective Conan series. There are a lot of references and guest character appearances from the main series that will please fans. It's a pleasant surprise that it still manages to stand on its own by actually being funny without needing any prior knowledge of the main series.
The story is goofy and never takes itself too seriously despite its dark content. Although he tries his best to follow his twisted dream, Hanzawa is inept, goofy, cowardly, and always manages to botch every situation he finds himself in. He often gets swallowed up by the big city and taken advantage of by the more experienced and serious criminals, but it's usually pretty funny to laugh at his misfortunes. Overall, this is a silly short series that anyone can watch for some sly fun and quick laughs. But you'll probably find it more enjoyable if you're already a fan of the main Detective Conan series.
