Dime Quién Soy: Mistress of War
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
DIME QUIEN SOY: MISTRESS OF WAR begins in Spain, 1934. Young Amelia (Irene Escolar) enters into an unwanted marriage to save her father's factory. Soon, however, Amelia decides she wants more from her life, which leads to a relationship with a communist activist named Pierre (Oriol Pla). Leaving her family behind, she embarks on a journey that takes her all over the world and allows her to experience some of the major events of the 20th century, including World War II.
Is It Any Good?
History is often the most exciting when it's retold from the inside, from the point of view of someone who lived through it. Dime Quién Soy's Amelia, through whom the viewer experiences three 20th century wars, has more agency than most characters in her position. Compared to someone like, for an obvious example, Forrest Gump, Amelia's personal choices drive and shape the story. She's not just a victim to which history has happened -- she interrogates wrongdoings and acts on her beliefs. That's the series' strength, and it's enough to make it stand out against other historical dramas.
