What's the Story?

DOMINA takes place in the aftermath of "the tyrant," Julius Caesar's assassination by Brutus and Cassius, who have fled to Greece. As Rome struggles to rebuild itself from the civil war that ensues, an outcast noblewoman fights to regain her place in society.

This intriguing historical premise is marred by subpar sets and costumes. While the romance and intrigue of Domina have soap opera-like allure, the series veers into excessive and unnecessary graphic content. It's predominantly focused on sex and rape, overshadowing the potential for deeper exploration of politics and war. Moreover, the storyline occasionally exhibits a certain immaturity, as evident in characters' implausibly swift revelations about pregnancy following their first sexual encounters. While the show may hold some appeal for those drawn to melodramatics, it falls short of its potential as a nuanced historical drama.
