Domino Day: Lone Witch
What's the Story?
Domino Day: Lone Witch follows its central character (Siena Kelly) as she navigates dating life as a woman with supernatural powers. Domino is torn between her desire for love and her need to feed on souls. As her power grows, a whole community of practicing witches rises up to keep her in check.
Is It Any Good?
The romantic drama at the heart of the show is simple and compelling. But when Domino Day: Lone Witch begins to expand its scope into the mythology of witchcraft, it feels clumsy and generic. In that way, the series reflects the conflict of its main character: comfortable with the ups and downs of dating, but with a bunch of supernatural powers it doesn't really know how to use.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about Domino's struggle. What are the things that drive her? What do her powers mean for her? What do you think is the difference between the life she has and the life she wants?
How does the series depict dating? How realistic or unrealistic do you think this depiction is? Do you think the series paints dating in a positive or negative light?
What does it mean to have a consensual relationship with someone? How does the series depict the idea of consent or lack of consent? What is the relationship between characters' morality and how they treat consent? In which ways does Domino represent both sides of consent or lack of consent?
