What's the Story?

DON'T HATE THE PLAYER is a French unscripted game of strategy featuring contestants competing for up to 150,000 euros. Six men and seven women in their 20s and 30s travel by boat to a beautiful and remote coastal area of Jalisco, Mexico, expecting to spend two weeks in a luxury villa. What they discover is that they have to rough it at an outdoor camp located an hour away with limited food. They also learn that to get into the villa, they must push themselves to win challenges, or be individually voted into the villa during voting "assemblies." Those who get inside the villa receive advantages in the game, including the power to decide who stays in the villa and who remains in the competition. At the end of the game, those who remain in the villa split the prize money. But neither getting in, nor staying there, is easy, especially when unexpected twists are added to the game.

The series offers lots of Survivor-like game play as contestants do everything they can to get into the villa and stay there in hopes of winning cash. Don't Hate the Player contestants face mental and physical challenges, and alliances are made and broken. They're also forced to nominate or sacrifice each other. All this is accompanied by endless bickering thanks to folks being underhanded as they get closer to winning. There's nothing new here for folks who enjoy this sort of reality fare, but Don't Hate the Player is entertaining enough.
