A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this TV show.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Fire Country is a drama about firefighters. It features a lineup of known actors Billy Burke, Diane Farr, and Kevin Alejandro, and portrays teams of firefighters battling blazes in Northern California's forests. The firefighting scenes may seem suspenseful or scary for younger viewers. Relationship issues are discussed, but the pilot only shows some kissing among characters. Topics of grief and redemption are central to the main character's story. Positive messages about teamwork and instinct are developed.

What's the Story?
In FIRE COUNTRY, Bode Donovan has just joined a prison release firefighting program. In it, he will work with local firefighters to reduce his prison sentence. When Bode is assigned to work in his small-town hometown, he is forced to face some of the people and problems that drove him away and into crime in the first place. What will he learn along the way?
Is It Any Good?
Typical primetime drama adds yet another firefighter show to the lineup. With Fire Country, CBS joins NBC and ABC with a show that portrays the perils of firefighting while highlighting the interpersonal dynamics that are just as central to the firefighter experience as the fires themselves. In developing the characters, the show attempts some twists that can catch viewers off guard -- if they can sit through the cheesy acting. There's potential, if the show can step up its urgency and realism.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about redemption in Fire Country. How does Bode seek redemption for his past? Do you think he deserves it? Do you think everyone should get a second chance after a major mistake? Why or why not?
Why do you think shows about groups like firefighters, medical professionals, and legal teams are so popular? How does this show portray firefighters as heroic? Does it show firefighters in a less-than-positive light?
