From Me to You: Kimi ni Todoke
What's the Story?
FROM ME TO YOU: KIMI NI TODOKE follows the story of Sawako Kuronuma (voiced by Mamiko Noto) a misunderstood high school girl who is feared by her classmates because of her appearance (which resembles that of the ghost character from the horror series The Ring.) In reality, Sawako is a kind and caring girl who struggles with her shyness but longs to be able to come out of her shell and make friends. Everything begins to change for Sawako after she begins talking with Shouta Kazehaya (Daisuke Namikawa), a popular boy in her class who shows her kindness. Sawako learns how to start voicing her thoughts and talking to people, building confidence and overcoming her shyness. She feels thankful to Kazehaya and begins developing feelings for him, all the while not knowing that Kazehaya is also developing feelings for her.
Is It Any Good?
Tween fans of romantic comedies and slice of life series will enjoy this wholesome coming-of-age story. From Me to You: Kimi ni Todoke captures the high school experiences of young love and just trying to fit in. It's primarily focused on the blooming relationship between Sawako and Kazehaya. The tame story about adolescent love and could serve as a positive example of a healthy relationship for young audiences. Sawako and Kazehaya are both good people who treat each other with kindness and respect.
The series also focuses on Sawako's high school journey as she explores her own personal growth. Sawako is seen as scary and is often misunderstood due to her gloomy appearance. However, she learns how to overcome her unfavorable reputation through communication. The show explores the experiences and relationships that help make Sawako a more well-rounded individual. Overall, From Me to You: Kimi ni Todoke is a sweet and positive take on the typical high school romance.
