What's the Story?

An independent Australian animated web series, GAMEOVERSE takes place inside a vast video game multiverse. In this reality, whenever a game's main hero defeats the final villain, the game is officially completed, causing that entire world to cease to exist. The series follows Kit (voiced by Erica Lindbeck), an agent of a group called the Farcade, who break into these universes and help the villains survive so their worlds aren't deleted. Standing in her way is the Syntax, a rival group determined to help the heroes win and endlessly pursuing the Farcade to stop them in their mission.

Kids say ( 1 ):

This sharp, fast-moving cartoon is tailor-made for teen and adult gamers. Gameoverse's humor is irreverent, sarcastic, and embedded in gaming culture, featuring visual nods like random pixelation frames and Kit and her crew hunting for each world's game heroes amongst a sea of side characters. While it embraces mature tropes like scantily clad female character designs and a high volume of edgy insults, it manages to avoid feeling entirely hollow. The underlying themes of empathy and Gobbles' (voiced by Jschlatt) growth under Kit's mentorship provide a welcome emotional grounding that sets it apart from typical adult animated comedies.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about about how Kaboodle is Kit's sidekick but routinely uses mean insults and verbally abuses other characters for comedic effect. Does framing insults as comedy make bullying OK in real life? How can we spot the difference between playful teasing and actual hostility?

  • Gobbles mentions that he actively learns how to be uplifting and courageous just by watching Kit. Who are the people in your life that you look up to, and what positive strengths are you learning from them?

  • The show uses typical video game designs, including putting female characters in skin-tight clothing or bikinis and boots for battles or when in pursuit. Why do you think game developers and animators choose these outfits for female fighters, and does it match up with how real heroes or athletes dress to do hard work?
