What's the Story?
GARCIA! takes place in a politically divided Spain in which a young journalism intern sets out to find a story to land her a newspaper job. In the process, she stumbles upon a cryogencially frozen secret agent from the 1960's named Garcia. With his enemies hot on their trail, the two must team up to find out how he got there and why.
Is It Any Good?
This Marvel wannabe out of Spain is a show that falls flat for kids and adults alike. Sadly, Garcia! feels like little more than a weak imitation of an Indiana Jones movie, with nothing updated or modernized for today's audiences. The plot is spoon-fed to the audience with action scenes that sometimes start on screen only to cut to the characters telling each other what happened. The exaggerated comic book style of the Carlos character and his foes could have been playful, but the constant use of vulgar language and persistent chauvinism takes away from the enjoyment.
Finally, the main character is supposed to be a strong woman fighting against societal expectations, but instead comes across as petulant and somewhat annoying. Overall, viewers will find this show dull and immature, and the offensive way that men speak to women makes it hard to watch.
