What's the Story?

In God. Family. Football., Evangel Christian Academy in the quiet town of Shreveport, Louisiana, seeks to reclaim its former glory after enduring their worst football season in history. Spurring their hopes at a comeback, the school's renowned coach, who previously led the team to a national championship, returns to spearhead the effort. Their leader isn't just a football coach, he's also a former chancellor of the school and a beloved pastor.

A story that extends beyond the football field to explore themes of resilience and community. The camaraderie within the high school team featured in God. Family. Football. is palpable, and the players' candid discussions about societal pressures along with their self-deprecating humor create many relatable moments. In many ways, the series is the real-life antithesis of Varsity Blues, featuring a hard-ass coach who nurtures, instead of abuses, his players on and off the field. Despite this inspiring premise, though, there are some elements of the show that don't quite line up with the narrative -- the sparse attendance at the Homecoming Game that's presented as all the town can talk about, for one. Nevertheless, the mix of faith and football provides the backdrop for an engaging journey.
