What's the Story?

GODZILLA SINGULAR POINT is about an unexpected journey to unravel the mystery of the world's impending doom. Mei Kamino (voiced by Erika Harlacher in the English dub) crosses paths with Yun Arikawa (voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch) at a job site one seemingly random night. Drawn together by the strange broadcast of an Indian lullaby, the two find themselves wrapped up in a larger conspiracy around the sudden appearance of monsters around the globe. Working together, they must seek the truth to prevent the final catastrophe that would destroy all humanity.

Is It Any Good?

This monster-fighting sci-fi series leans heavy into the abstract theory with a convoluted plot that makes the kaiju fights almost not worth the watch. While the characters are interesting enough (a cool-headed tech smartie, a relatable science genius grad student, and their cast of curious allies), they don't undergo any personal journeys that make them feel more real than just fresh takes on old archetypes. The random references to cultural knowledge (e.g. literature, philosophy) seem just that -- random, without making the logic of the in-world science any clearer. Godzilla fans may appreciate this new installment to the beloved kaiju franchise, but new viewers will likely feel lost and confused by the slow pacing and underdeveloped world-building.

  • Families can talk about violence. Is the violence in the show justified? When might the violence not be justified?
