Gotham Knights
What's the Story?
GOTHAM KNIGHTS follows Turner Hayes (Oscar Morgan), a star student, wealthy ward, and sole heir of Bruce Wayne. When Wayne is killed, Turner discovers two things: that his father was Batman, and that he's a prime suspect in his murder. To clear his name and avenge his father, Turner gets tangled up with a couple of thieves (Fallon Smythe, Tyler DiChiara), "Joker's delusional daughter" (Olivia Rose Keegan), and Robin (Navia Ziraili Robinson). As Turner clashes with this crew, he uncovers more secrets about his father that challenge his view on the Dark Knight.
Is It Any Good?
This series asks the question "With no Batman, who's going to solve the murder of Bruce Wayne?" Gotham Knights has an interesting premise, but overall, this Gotham City falls a little flat. It has great storytelling potential -- bringing in the children of Batman's enemies -- but fans of DC might turn elsewhere to get their TV Dark Knight-adjacent fix. Considering the combat, this series is suitable for most teens.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about secrets. Bruce Wayne did not disclose to his son that he was Batman. Why do you think that this? Does it seem justified? Is there ever a time when holding the truth is helpful?
How does this show convey the idea that teamwork is important? Does it emphasize any other positive character strengths? Do characters have to be wholly heroic to model positive traits?
