What's the Story?

GRIMSBURG is an animated comedy about a detective on a road to redemption. Marvin Flute (Jon Hamm) is a down-and-out former detective of the Grimsburg P.D., but finds new purpose when his is recruited by his old boss, Lt. John Kang (Greg Chun) to solve the murder of Grimsburg's mayor. Now possessing a temporary badge and working alongside Detective Greg Summers (Kevin Michael Richardson), who's more cyborg than human, Flute's back in his old town and using his sleuthing talents to determine what is really going on. But while he's on the case, he also wants to reconcile with his ex-wife Harmony (Erinn Hayes), a local news reporter with interesting eating habits, and his son Stan (Rachel Dratch), who has a history of seeing visions of a skeleton named Mr. Flesh (played by Alan Tudyk).

Executive produced by Jon Hamm, this moderately funny animated series parodies true crime shows with the help of quirky characters and strange unsolvable crimes. However, rather than focusing on telling a good story, Grimsburg's focus is more on offering quick one-liners and a litany of gags in every episode. But there are some badly timed jokes, and the non-stop gags don't always seem to go anywhere. Nonetheless, despite not being the sharpest of satires, Grimsburg manages to elicit the occasional chuckle. It's more silly than smart or witty, but folks who enjoy this type of entertainment may find it worth checking out.
