What's the Story?

Haha You Clowns focuses on three offensive tackle-sized teenage boys who've recently lost their mother. Tristan, Duncan, and Preston (all voiced by creator Joe Cappa) idolize their father, who is clearly still processing his grief.

Is It Any Good?

Many, if not most, Adult Swim cartoons get their humor by pushing the boundaries of taste. Haha You Clowns goes in a different direction, presenting a loving and positive family dynamic that's nonetheless hilarious in its mundanity. The way the boys and their father experience the world is simplistic but caring (for example, the teens try to tend to their father's grief with ice cream and horror movies). It resists the temptation to laugh at these characters, admiring their endless (if naive) positivity instead.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about family. What's the relationship between the boys and their father? How do they take care of each other? How has the relationship changed or how is it changing?

  • What is each of the boys' roles in their dynamic? How are they differentiated from one another? How do they see themselves?

  • Does Haha You Clowns want you to laugh at this family? Where does the show's humor come from? How is this humor different from other comedies you enjoy?
