What's the Story?
Charlie Summers (Harry McNaughton) was on his way to HAPPINESS on Broadway before his visa got denied and his manager dropped him. Now he's stuck doing amateur theater in his hometown of Tauranga, New Zealand. At the humble Pizazz community theater, his conflict-avoidant mother (Rebecca Gibney) is the president, and they're working on an upcoming original production called The Trojan Horse. When Charlie realizes this play could help with his visa application, he swallows his pride and joins the project. Can Charlie manage egos and expectations while rediscovering himself?
Is It Any Good?
This series brings harmony and humor into a small-town theater with big personalities. Happiness is light, earnest, and amusing; the musical numbers are balanced just right with the character dynamics and the comedy. There's light drinking and romance sprinkled throughout, but this is a suitable watch for most teens.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
In Happiness, how did characters demonstrate teamwork, courage, and compassion? Why are these important character strengths?
In the show, there's conflict around tradition and modernity (small-town theater vs. Broadway). What can you do to better understand someone else's point of view, even if you don't see things eye to eye?
