A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this TV show.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Harlem is a mature comedy series, produced by Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip). While the show is characterized by explicit language and sexual content, central themes include promoting diversity, striving for women's empowerment, speaking out against racism, and the importance of friendship. The main characters frequently have nights out that include drinking and heavy flirting, which punctuates the show's inappropriateness for a younger audiences. Parents would likely want to engage in conversations with older children about what is shown and why these behaviors are reserved for adults.

What's the Story?
HARLEM follows the story of four bold women of color, connected by their friendship, navigating life, love, and career in New York City. Trying to make the most of their 30s, the women wholeheartedly support each other through the ups and downs of life. Each 30-minute episode uses sexual content and explicit language for comedic punchlines. The main characters -- Camille, a professor at Columbia, Quinn, a fashion designer, Angie, a struggling singer, and Tye, a tech executive -- are all on a quest to find real love, success, and happiness.
Is It Any Good?
The series, which features Megan Good, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jasmine Guy, is a fresh take on the lives of 30-something women living in New York City. Harlem, which is reminiscent of an updated, diverse Sex and the City, is characterized by comedy and sex while also discussing important life questions. The fun and upbeat soundtrack engages viewers, making one feel more connected to the storyline. Witty writing and the chemistry among the actors makes for a binge-worthy viewing experience.
