Head Over Heels
What's the Story?
In HEAD OVER HEELS, Seong-a (Cho Yi-hyun, All of Us Are Dead) spends her after-school hours working as a shaman known as the Heaven and Earth Fairy. During school hours, she snoozes through classes, barely passing her midterms. She battles with mean spirits, working to bring them to the "other side" in the evenings, but her dream is to be an ordinary teen. Her gifts help her see the future, but a mysterious boy named Gyeon-u (Choo Young-woo, Once Upon a Small Town) has flummoxed her. How can she help him when he mistrusts anyone's help?
Is It Any Good?
This catchy Korean teen romance weaves threads of shamanism and jump scares for a craveable combination. A handsome, aloof teen with misfortune surrounding him catches the young shaman's eye. She wants to save him but must protect her anonymity. He doesn't want to be saved and rebuffs her interest. This formula works thanks to the sweet comedic antics of Cho Yi-hyun.
Head Over Heels veers into some spooky territory, but it doesn't dwell there. Adult and teen fans of perky teen horror can binge this one together.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about self-control in Head Over Heels. The main character hides her identity in this show so that she won't be inundated on the streets by people who request her shamanic services. When is she tempted to reveal herself? What would happen if she lost her anonymity?
The main character has lost loved ones because of her ability to see ghosts. How does her loss help her have empathy for others?
People who come to see the shaman show gratitude for her help with their problems. Is monetary payment a form of gratitude? Or does money sometimes get in the way of sincere thanks?
