Hell's Paradise
What's the Story?
HELL'S PARADISE follows Gabimaru (voiced in English by Alejandro Saab), an immortal shinobi who's been captured and charged with treason for abandoning his responsibilities. He just wants to live an ordinary life with his wife, whom he loves deeply. The counsel, who has tried many times to execute him for his crimes, changes their minds and offers Gabimaru what he wants in exchange for him completing a mission with other criminals, and returning alive with the "elixir of life." It is a bloody story of lawless men who risk their lives trying to redeem themselves.
Is It Any Good?
This anime is gory, violent, and adult, but compelling. Hell's Paradise is a typical story in which criminals are recruited by a government type, in exchange for something they want such as legal pardoning or immunity. Despite that, the pacing for the storyline is good. The show doesn't leave the viewer bored or overwhelmed with too much going on at once. The characters, especially Gabimaru, show growth and depth throughout the show. Gabimaru goes from an indifferent, uncaring killing machine to someone who stands for honoring others, especially his wife and female teammate Mei.
