What's the Story?

Trina Vega (Daniella Monet) returns to HOLLYWOOD ARTS as a substitute teacher trying to step into the spotlight after living in her sister's shadow. Instead, she finds herself responsible for a new generation of young artists. Jen Z and Pepper (Erika Swayze and Emmy Liu-Wang) are frenemies, constantly trying to one up each other. They also frequently fight over Oscar (Martin Kamm), who's used to being the center of attention. Qwest (Peyton Jackson) lies to his family and pretends to play basketball, just so that he can stay at the school. Trina sees herself most in Emmy (Alyssa Miles), Oscar's tech-savvy little sister. When Trina spots the talent that Emmy hides, she learns that maybe her future in the spotlight is to shine it on others.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say ( 2 ):
Kids say ( 1 ):

This spin-off series keeps the same whimsical and wild energy as its predecessor. Hollywood Arts is full of fun musical numbers, fell-good moments, and bizarre characters. Victorious was already set in the digital age, so the use of social media and advanced technology flows seamlessly in this iteration. Monet's reprisal of Trina Vega's role is intriguing and amusing; watching her balance the chaotic, selfish nature of Trina with adulthood and being a teacher will enthrall veteran fans and entertain newer viewers. It's hard not to see the new students as duplicates of the original cast archetypes (the mean girl, the airhead, etc.) but there's potential for them to evolve. Parents will want to mind the verbal hostility and some of the violence, but this series is suitable for most viewers.
