What's the Story?
HOME IN THE WILD follows Lori and Jim, a married couple who are seasoned wilderness explorers, as they introduce their young children to nature through multiday off-the-grid adventures. The series begins with a river canoe trip where the family not only traverses challenging waters but also builds temporary shelters and even makes their own furniture, all while managing the unique needs of son Wes, who has FOXG1 syndrome.
Is It Any Good?
This show offers a unique glimpse into a family's adventurous lifestyle, showing both the physical and mental resilience needed to thrive in nature. Viewers of Home in the Wild will be impressed by how much this family accomplishes, from canoeing rapids to setting up homesteads in remote areas. The series is sure to inspire others to explore the outdoors, showing that nature is accessible even to families with young children and those with special needs. However, some scenarios feel staged for dramatic effect, and the show can overly romanticize the challenges of living off the land. The season's short run of only four episodes, covering two trips, also leaves viewers with only a shallow view of the family's lifestyle.
