What's the Story?

HULK HOGAN: REAL AMERICAN is a docuseries about the late Terry Bollea, aka iconic wrestler Hulk Hogan. From honing his craft in the United States South in the late 1970s, to transforming professional wrestling from regional entertainment into what is now mainstream multi-billion dollar industry it is today, Bollea talks about his successful career as Hulk Hogan. He discusses the rise of "Hulkmania," his bid for president of the United States, and his ability to transform his persona when less popular with audiences. He also talks about life with his first wife Linda and their children, Brooke and Nick, being on VH1's Hogan Knows Best, and the inevitable wear and tear his body endured from decades of fighting in the ring. Conversations with Linda and Nick offer intimate details about what life was like living with Bollea, and how he struggled to separate who he was from his larger-than-life brand. Meanwhile, interviews with folks in the wrestling world, including Hogan's manager Jimmy Hart, former wrestlers like Jesse Ventura, sports journalists, and even President Donald Trump help round out the stories about his career and how he worked hard to remain relevant in the industry as he got older. His third wife, Sky Daily Hogan, briefly shares how Bollea's priorities were changing in the final years of his life. Throughout it all, private and public archive media is shown.

The anecdotal docuseries features Hulk Hogan giving what turned out to be his final interviews before his death on July 24, 2025. Hulk Hogan: Real American chronicles his life as Terry Bollea and his career as Hulk Hogan, and how over time it created a dual identity that was almost impossible for him to separate. But most of the series focuses on Hogan's historic professional wrestling career from beginning to end, and offers lots of details and insights about each stage. It also revisits some of the controversies surrounding his life, including his public support for Donald Trump and MAGA. The absence of Brooke Hogan on the series does suggest that there may be some ongoing family drama. Fans of the sport will no doubt find Hulk Hogan: Real American very entertaining.
