Human Vapor
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
Suspended detective Kenji Okamoto gets called back to work when man calling himself "Human Vapor" commits a gruesome murder on live television. Alongside news reporter Kyoko Kono, with whom he has a romantic history, Okamoto must find the Human Vapor and figure out how to prevent him from killing again.
Is It Any Good?
The premise, taken from a 1960s B-movie, somehow feels perfectly appropriate for modern audiences. Human Vapor is filled with fun stock characters, as a rule-bending cop and tenacious reporter try to outwit an unstoppable villain. But the hook here -- a man who can turn himself from solid to gas at will --- is insidious and creepy, giving the chase to stop this villain real urgency. For those willing to brave the subtitles and the gore, Human Vapor should be an at-home alternative to a summer blockbuster, a monster story along the lines of Jaws or Independence Day.
