What's the Story?
In IF IT'S TUESDAY, IT'S MURDER (aka Si es martes, es asesinato) a group of tourists turns crime sleuths during a chaotic vacation in Portugal. Prometeo Travels promises Spanish holidaymakers an upscale and relaxing all-inclusive week in Lisbon, Portugal, but for a small and diverse group of travelers led by company tour guide Cristina (Carmen Ruiz) things go wrong from the start. They eventually end up in El Hotel Marqués, a deteriorating historic hotel located under a bridge in a rough part of town. Each member of the group deals differently with the unexpected changes to their itinerary, but when one of them is found dead after the first night, Pura (Ana Wagener), Alicia (Inma Cuesta), and Daniel (Biel Montoro) suspect foul play. Despite Lisbon detective Gonçalo Mendes (Adriano Carvalho) dismissing the idea, the trio, joined by a reluctant Fabio (Álex García), searches for evidence that their fellow traveler was murdered as they press on with the trip. But everyone is a suspect, especially since they all seem to be keeping secrets of their own.
Is It Any Good?
The entertaining whodunnit offers a combination of eclectic characters, dry humor, and dark moments as viewers are guided through a strange—yet familiar— international murder mystery. As in most murder mystery's, there are lots of suspenseful moments, potential clues dropped, and lots of conversations about what potentially transpired. But it's quirky, too, thanks distinct character personalities and characters breaking the fourth wall (i.e., talking to the viewer). The overall plot isn't intended to be completely original, as indicated by the narrative's many references to popular mystery TV series like Agatha Christie and The X-Files. Instead, If It's Tuesday, It's Murder takes its place in the genre as a lighthearted and fun journey that isn't meant to be taken too seriously.
