What's the Story?

The name pretty much says it all. Joe Pera (played by comedian Joe Pera) is a middle school choir teacher who enjoys informing viewers about topics ranging from how to get to sleep to the rocks of Northern Michigan. With assistance from his friends, fellow teachers, and small community, Pera invites viewers into his day-to-day life, one task at a time.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

Though similiar to shows like Nathan for You or How To with John Wilson, this special series has an infectious earnestness that goes beyond cringe. The socially awkward comedian/host is a recognizable type at this point. The twist here is that Pera's nervous energy isn't the engine for the comedy. Instead of his social awkwardness getting him into trouble or making him the butt of the joke, it's merely the surface of a thoughtful, confident character who knows who he is. The series is then free to explore whatever other topics it feels like exploring. The result is a sweet, thoughtful comedy about the small joys of everyday life.
