Hosted by Korean American actor Daniel Dae Kim (K-Pop Demon Hunters and Lost), K-EVERYTHING is a CNN docuseries that devotes each episode to a different Korean global export, from the infectious beats of K-pop to the meticulous routines of K-beauty. Kim travels to South Korea to investigate how this small island nation managed to conquer the world with its cultural exports in just one generation.
Is It Any Good?
Both fascinating and eye-opening, this docuseries balances the flashy veneer of the "Korean Wave" with the heavier economic and social pressures that birthed it. Kim, who was born in Korea before immigrating to America with his family as a young child, serves as a gentle and inquisitive host, even willing to be a guinea pig when the situation calls for it. While the show is visually vibrant and fast-paced, it's also a bit sobering as it paints a picture of a society defined by painfully exacting standards and extreme competition. All in all, it's a compelling glimpse into a cultural revolution that's still unfolding. Viewers will likely walk away with the feeling that they've only begun to scratch the surface.
