Kill Jackie
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
Kill Jackie stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as a former drug dealer turned art dealer who discovers there's a price on her head and she's been stalked by a group of assassins called the Seven Demons. Alongside her assistant and her lawyer, Jackie turns the tables on her aggressors.
Is It Any Good?
Action movies and series have long been built around a relentless barrage of dopamine hits; this show is no exception, which is both the series' greatest strength and biggest liability. There's not a single aspect of the Kill Jackie plot that holds up to the slightest bit of scrutiny. Once past the 1980s-Schwarzenegger levels of preposterousness, the action can be quite fun. Then again, it's also a little like eating candy all day to try to avoid a sugar crash—the dizziness is only enjoyable until the spinning won't stop. The Kill Jackie experience can be quite a rush, but there's not much to hold onto.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about style. Is Kill Jackie realism? In which ways does it stretch reality? Why do you think the series chooses the aesthetic it uses? How do the film techniques used to tell the story affect the way you experience the characters or events?
How is violence used in this series? Do different characters have different philosophies on violence? How do you think the show wants you to feel about violence?
