What's the Story?
KPOPPED is a competition series where some of the most iconic Western musicians collaborate with K-pop idols in Seoul, South Korea and battle it out on stage. Hosted by comedian Soojeong Son, with the help of PSY and Megan thee Stallion, each episode features two Western music performers, such as Patti LaBelle, Vanilla Ice, Kesha, and Mel B. and Emma Bunton of the Spice Girls. These two singers team up with with a popular K-pop group like BLACKSWAN, Billie, ATEEZ, STAYC, and Kiss of Life, the members of which are divided to work separately with each one. After a few days of rehearsals, each team gives a Western performers' song a K-popped flip. After lots of rehearsing, each team goes head to head in a music battle in from of a live audience, which chooses which one wins "Top K-Pop."
Is It Any Good?
This lighthearted series plays to many audiences by showcasing popular K-Pop bands performing great mashups with iconic Western artists. While it's a contest, lots of KPOPPED features the performers socializing and rehearsing with each other, and having fun in the process. Meanwhile, K-Pop band members are often dazzled by who they get to work with, while the Western performers, all of whom are excited about the collaborations, learn more about the work and precision the K-Pop genre requires. Adding to the fray is the live audience, who seem familiar with (and excited about) every performer that takes the stage regardless of where they are from. Overall, KPOPPED is an entertaining music battle show that has a lot of international appeal.
