What's the Story?
KUN BY AGÜERO (Spanish title, Kun por Agüero) is an Argentine sports documentary series about the football career of retired football phenom Sergio Kun Agüero. As a child, Agüero was a gifted soccer player who grow up feeling pressured by his father, former footballer Leonel del Castillo, and by the need to take care of his family. By the age of eighteen he was playing on Argentina's National Senior team. At the age of twenty-three, Agüero was recruited by Manchester City FC, where he became the club's all-time top goal scorer from 2011 to 2021. But throughout this success the champion player struggled with a serious life-threatening medical condition that made him decide to end his football career. Now he looks back at his life and career in an attempt to have a better understanding on who he is today.
Is It Any Good?
This introspective sports documentary series uses interviews, brief reenactments, and archival game play footage to showcase Sergio Kun Agüero's professional journey on and off the pitch. Agüero, along with his former coaches, family members, and friends (including close friend Lionel Messi) talk about how he went from being a young phenom to an international football superstar. From his early childhood playing for multiple football clubs during a single season, to his brief stint with FC Barçelona, these conversations highlight his extraordinary athletic talent, and the serious challenges he faced throughout his career. This includes the difficult relationship he has had with his father over the years, his relationship with Gianinna Maradona (the daughter of famed Argentine footballer Diego Maradona), and being diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia, which led to his early retirement in 2021. These events aren't always presented chronologically, but suggest direct connections between them and the different decisions he's made over the years as he grew into adulthood. It's an interesting journey, and one that makes Kun by Agüero worth the watch, especially if you're a football fan.
