Lego Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails
What's the Story?
LEGO MARVEL AVENGERS: STRANGE TAILS is a two-part animated special featuring characters from across the Avengers multiverse in a battle against Meryet Karim (aka "Spinx," voiced by Alia Shawkat). Meryet begins as a harmless-seeming, though annoying, "cat influencer," but it becomes clear that she has villainous motives. The Avengers begin the special battling some of their usual foes like Magneto (Jason Alexander), and Hawkeye (Troy Baker) leads the heroes in thwarting the evil mutants. As more and more cats take over Manhattan, and Meryet mysteriously always appears, the Avengers realize that they have a bigger problem on their hands. The Avengers realize that they need to stop Meryet, who is willing to stop at nothing to gain internet popularity, before the universe is destroyed.
Is It Any Good?
Avengers fans will enjoy seeing the mashup of different heroes and villains in the Avengers cinematic universe. Non-superhero fans will probably find that Lego Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails falls flat. The plot is pretty nonsensical and suffers from pacing issues. It's pretty hard to keep track of the many characters. While there's nothing iffy about it, it doesn't shine like some of the other Lego/Disney collaborations.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the temptation to chase likes and views on social media. What lesson did Meryet learn about trying to gain online popularity? How does this translate to real life?
Why do you think the creators of this series made it have Lego Marvel characters instead of just regular Marvel characters?
