What's the Story?
LEVIATHAN is a historical fiction story that takes place in Europe, at the very beginning of an alternate World War I. Prince Aleksandar (voiced by Dor Gvirtsman) is the intelligent, somewhat sheltered son of Austro-Hungarian nobles. When his parents are assassinated, he is taken away from his home for safety and joins the army to fight against the country's enemies. In this war there are two sides, those who use mechanized war machines (called the clankers) and those who use giant animal hybrids (called the Dawinists) to fight their battles. Prince Alek, along with a fellow soldier called Deryn Sharp (voiced by Broghanne Jessamine) board the warship called the Leviathan, where they encounter many adventures around the world.
Is It Any Good?
This show is a surprisingly pleasant journey into a world of steampunk and a little bit of real history. Leviathan, despite being a wartime story, features very little violence. Viewers might expect to see more shocking or dark instances of battle, but the series overall is pretty mild. The steampunk element is a creative touch, and adds a little bit of fun to the story. Visual elements are impressive as well and make for an enjoyable watch.
