What's the Story?

LOG HORIZON centers around Shiroe (voiced in the English dub by Mike Yager), a reluctant college student who finds himself thrust into a leadership role when he awakens inside the popular video game Elder Tale along with thousands of other players who are now trapped inside this world. Shiroe along with the other players must learn how to survive and thrive in the video game world. With no clear way of leaving the game world, the players must do their best to build a functional society in this strange new world until they can figure out a way to leave and get back to the real world.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say : Not yet rated
Kids say ( 1 ):

This isekai series (one where characters are teleported into a fantasy world) spends a lot of time world building, focusing on the rules, history, geography, and creatures in its fictional world. In Log Horizon, characters seem to accept the new video game world as their reality and instead of prioritizing figuring out a way to get home, they instead focus on how to live in this completely new world. There is a lot of world building that focuses on characters working together to build a functional society -- creating tribes, politics, and how these groups interact with each other. There's a good amount of action and fighting, but it's much slower than other similar series of the genre where characters have a specific goal that they are rushing to. The characters are likable and some have some good character growth, such as Shiroe, an introverted engineering college student in the real world who is forced to become a reluctant leader in the video game world using his video game knowledge. One flaw that takes away some of the excitement is that characters can revive after death without any significant consequences, so the character battles can feel flat when you know everyone will ultimately be okay. Overall, Log Horizon is a good fantasy series that younger audiences may enjoy.
