What's the Story?

LOVE HOTEL is an unscripted dating series featuring Real Housewives cast members continuing their search for love. Hosted by Joel Kim Booster, the show follows Shannon Storms Beador from The Real Housewives of the O.C., The Real Housewives of the Potomac's Gizelle Bryant, and Ashley Darby and Luann de Lesseps from The Real Housewives of New York, who are all staying in the luxurious Grand Velas Boutique Hotel in Los Cabos, Mexico. There they get the chance to meet and potentially date eight bachelors who are also looking for "the one." But the women are the decision-makers, so the single men have to do their best to impress the woman they like to get a key to a space that will allow them to have some privacy. Meanwhile, the Housewives get to choose which men stay and which leave, and may even find themselves competing with each other for one special guy. At the end of the journey, each woman will have to decide if she wants to leave the hotel with the man she has connected with, or go home alone.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

Kids say : Not yet rated

The predictable Real Housewives spin-off features four reality personalities trying to find love in yet another public and unscripted television environment. The Love Hotel cast members, whose ages are between mid-30s and early 60s, indicate that they're approaching this experience with a sense of self-awareness and perhaps a maturity they didn't have before. But this doesn't stop some of them from speaking crudely, arguing, or engaging in nonsensical or misogynistic behavior to create the drama necessary to keep the show going. Nonetheless, Love Hotel places the decision-making power in the hands of the Housewives, giving them the room to reveal that women approaching or in middle age remain sexual beings.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about the popularity of the Real Housewives franchise. How have cast members capitalized on that popularity over the years?

  • Love Hotel underscores that women 35 and older should feel free and comfortable to date, and find romance with partners that they are emotionally and physically attracted to. How does this differ from popular dating shows from a decade ago?
