What's the Story?

LOVE THROUGH A PRISM follows young artist Lili Ichijoin (voiced in English by Leader Looi) as she moves to London to study at Saint Thomas Art Academy. Desperate to prove herself, she competes with Kit Church (voiced by Christopher Bonwell) for top ranks. But as their rivalry turns into something more, she learns that skill alone won't help her achieve her dreams.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say : Not yet rated
Kids say ( 1 ):

A one-sided rivalry turns into a meaningful romance in this artsy historical drama about pursuing your passions. Love Through a Prism lets love drive the plot, but its real value is how characters challenge our ideas of what's possible. By chasing their dreams, they highlight different challenges in society. Since it's a mostly hopeful anime, some of the topics are only tackled at a surface level. But the problems are real, and it's good to see how this era and culture—despite the problems—still had opportunities for women, people of color, and people from lower-income backgrounds.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about prejudice and inequality. What obstacles do characters face in trying to achieve their dreams? What helps them overcome those obstacles?

  • Does the show accurately portray what life would have been like in early 1900s London for these characters? What parts are correct? What's missing? Why do you think the creators chose to make this the setting, and why would they portray it this way?

  • While the show is a romance, love is not the main theme. Which other theme(s) most resonate with you? Which ones do you think are most important for viewers to understand? Why?
