What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Mira, Royal Detective: Mikku and Chikku's Hometown Mystery is a Mira, Royal Detective special. It's a longer episode premiering for Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month -- but it works for any month, for that matter. Though this special features all animal characters except for Mira, it pays tribute to the many harvest festivals that take place in India like Makar Sankranti and Baisakhi that celebrate with song, dance, and lots of bright colors.

What's the Story?
In Mira, Royal Detective: Mikku and Chikku's Hometown Mystery, the Nut Harvest Festival is approaching. Mira journeys to Nevapur, the hometown of her good friends Mikku and Chikku, to observe the annual mongoose tradition. On the way, Mira learns a little bit about goats, parakeets, and, of course, mongooses -- before meeting Mikku's and Chikku's parents and cousins. The festivities get underway, but important items turn up missing, causing conflict among the mongoose competitors. The mongooses count on Mira to help them figure out why the items are missing. Along the way, they learn the importance of working together.
Is It Any Good?
It's always a good time when Mira puts her detective skills to the test. Mira, Royal Detective: Mikku and Chikku's Hometown Mystery is no exception. Viewers get what they love from this preschool series -- an introduction to Indian culture, bright colors, enjoyable characters, and critical thinking skills -- and this time, they get a few minutes more than a typical Mira episode. The one downside is that Mira is the only human character featured in the episode. Though the animal characters are developed enough, viewers may miss out on learning about the culture in a way that's a bit more realistic than talking mongooses.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about teamwork in Mira, Roya Detective: Mikku and Chikku's Hometown Mystery. Why did Mikku and Chikku not want to work with Anish and Anisha? How did the animals end up working together? What lesson did they learn about teamwork?
