What's the Story?

MOTEL MAKEOVER is a reality series featuring two Canadian "moteliers" refurbishing a rundown motel to create an elevated travel experience. In 2016 best friends and business partners April Brown and Sarah Sklash quit their jobs to focus on updating roadside motels in Canada to make them swanky sleepover stops. After successfully creating The June Motel in Prince Edward County, they are now refurbishing a tired, outdated road stop to create The June Hotel in Sauble Beach, which is located on the shores of Lake Huron. The large property is full of potential, and the women look to "Junify" it with their design ideas and the help of their small town contractor. But as they move forward, the limited budget curtails some of their plans, and the COVID pandemic brings the project to a stand still. But the two are determined to make it work.

The entertaining series reveals some interesting ways a rundown motel stop can be turned into a destination hotspot. Most of the Motel Makeover focuses on updating dated decor than actual reconstruction and renovation projects, and a lot of it is done on a tight budget and with some creative flair. But seeing how it comes together is fun, as is watching the team try to cope with the inevitable surprises that comes with the process. If you like interior design shows, Motel Makeover is a fun viewing option.
