Murder in a Small Town
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
MURDER IN A SMALL TOWN is about police chief Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland), who relocates to a coastal town in Canada after being exhausted by the punishing pace of big-city police work. There, he goes on a blind date with local librarian and equally exhausted Cassandra Lee (Kristin Kreuk). Karl and Cassandra make a connection that lasts the series, but the small town they both live in, while beautiful, proves to be far from relaxing, with gruesome murders to solve in each episode.
Is It Any Good?
This is an easy-to-watch crime series with predictable plots, likable characters, some fun cameos, and nice scenery. Viewers who grew up watching Murder She Wrote or any number of prime-time crime shows will likely enjoy Murder in a Small Town.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the storyline of each show and whether they can tell, at the onset, who committed each crime, and what the clues were that they observed to reach their conclusion.
On a social-emotional level, the two main characters, police chief Karl and librarian Cassandra, are two kind but complex characters. Do your children identify more with the strong and silent type of personality as portrayed by Karl? Or do they see more of themselves in the emotional but wounded Cassandra?
