What's the Story?

MY BRILLIANT CAREER follows 17-year-old Sybylla Melvyn (Phillipa Northeast) as she's forced to live with her grandmother (Anna Chancellor) at her estate, Caddagat, in Australia. For Sybylla, this is an opportunity to write her next novel, but for her impoverished family, Caddagat is Sybylla's ticket to marriage and a promising future. Despite meeting some decent prospects (Jake Dunn, Christopher Chung), marriage is the furthest thing from her mind as she finishes her novel. But when she learns that her marriage will decide her family's survival, Sybylla struggles between writing her destiny and fulfilling her perceived duties as a woman.

This series is a lively and refreshing adaptation of a classic novel. My Brilliant Career is packed with endearing characters, witty dialogue, and inspirational storylines. Fans of the book will appreciate this modernized take, as it remains true to its early-1900s setting while embracing a diverse cast. It's suitable for most viewers, but parents will want to mind the swearing, sexual content, drinking, and smoking.
