My Melody & Kuromi
What's the Story?
MY MELODY & KUROMI are creative cooks who run competing shops in the sweet town of Mariland. While My Melody's cakes are a favorite between the residents, they find Kuromi's creative recipes rather strange. Deciding to get the same affection as her rival, Kuromi plots to steal My Melody's recipes. But when My Melody accidentally discovers a magical heart in the forest, the city is threatened. The two rivals must come together to restore peace to Mariland.
Is It Any Good?
A beautiful work of stop-motion, the series presents younger than it really is. My Melody & Kuromi has a layered story with complex characters who are not simply good or bad. Some characters seen as the villains are actually misunderstood, unseen, or left out. The show comes full circle at the end, with a strong message about kindness and caring for others — but it's a wild ride to get there.
While the cute look may draw in preschoolers, keep in mind that the plot gets darker over time. It includes possessed characters and themes of parental loss that may upset sensitive kids. It's better suited for older kids or those familiar with anime-style drama.

The show starts with sweet visuals that get progressively darker as the story continues. Do you think that's a good choice for the target audience?
