My Perfect Landing
What's the Story?
MY PERFECT LANDING follows Jenny Cortez (Morgan Wigle) and her family's move from Miami to Toronto to take over the family gymnastics gym. Together they navigate challenges, including a new school, gymnastics team, and family dynamics.
Is It Any Good?
This Canadian show is a feel-good story with diverse characters. My Perfect Landing focuses on physical achievement and friendship instead of the snark and themes of romantic interest that are typical in pre-teen dramas made for young girl audiences. While some settings feel staged, the real gymnast actors add authenticity to the gymnastic scenes, making them a highlight. While the show does highlight female camaraderie, it's a shame that the plot follows a stereotypical storyline of a queen bee girl bullying others to keep her spot in the pecking order. The ongoing tensions with Jenny's mom not letting her compete to her potential also get frustrating but, overall, it's a solid underdog story with valuable lessons for its audience.
