What's the Story?

OMG FASHUN is a competition that requires up-and-coming fashion designers to create looks that challenge mainstream fashion conventions. Each episode features three "disruptors" who must create head-to-toe looks based on a theme shared by host Julia Fox. As they work on their garments, often using unique materials and non-traditional modes of construction, they're presented with an additional challenge that adds to the pressure. The looks are each presented on a runway in front of the panel of judges, which includes Fox, stylist Law Roach, and a guest judge, such as Phaedra Parks or Pretty Vee. The designer who comes up with the most unconventional and subversive look wins $10K and the chance to have the host model their garment in a fashion video.

The edgy competition features looks and designs that range from the strange to the subversive. OMG Fashun contestants creatively rework average pieces of clothing, refashion found items from dumpsters, and even paint with animal blood to create unconventional looks that push the boundaries of traditional style conventions. Meanwhile, the panel does its best to be over-the-top in their vernacular and looks. Julia Fox promotes herself in video vignettes that feature her sporting the winning outfits. OMG Fashun is an unsophisticated, silly show that nonetheless serves as an interesting visual conversation about designers whose points of view are out of step with current fashion leaders are trying to stay true to themselves while carving their own space in the industry.
