What's the Story?

On the African savannah, atop the arctic circle, wild animals are adapting to life as climate change raises the odds against survival. In PREDATORS, even the fastest cheetahs and the wiliest hyenas have to face hardships such as brush fires and water shortages. They may have to wander further to find prey, but the predators are learning to adapt. Can they work together to foster another generation of the planet's finest hunters? Or will their numbers dwindle?

Move over David Attenborough, there's a new cat in town; Tom Hardy's trademark growl heralds a new age of nature documentary. Predator has a gripping narrative, a heart-racing pace, and superlative photography, thanks to drone footage and excellent editing. The tasty bits are lip smacking, the lion purrs rumble in the viewer's chest.

Hardy is given a great script, and he savors it. Phrases like "slick black serpent" to describe a river that cuts off a herd from protection, and "hostile tinderbox," or "she's clocked the pride," are not overwrought in Hardy's hands. Hearing him say the word "zebra" is alone worth the watch. Sensitive viewers may find the graphic nature of the hunt's end off-putting. Families with tween kids who like action movies will really enjoy exploring this new documentary frontier.
