What's the Story?
PSYCH 3: THIS IS GUS, the third TV movie spin-off of the popular Psych (2006-2014) series, offers a fun detective story that stays true to the franchise. Gus (Dulé Hill) is obsessed with planning his wedding to pregnant fiancée Selene (Jazmyn Simon), but Shawn (James Roday Rodriguez) has doubts about his partner's future wife. Soon the duo find themselves chasing down Selene's estranged husband, with Jules (Maggie Lawson) and Karen Vick (Kirsten Nelson) eventually joining the fray. Meanwhile, Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) is coping with his uncertain future as Santa Barbara's Chief of Police, and Henry (Corbin Bernsen) offers up his insights about what's going on.
Is It Any Good?
Fans of the popular series will delight in this "threequel," which continues the franchise's tradition of great writing, quick wit, and entertaining chemistry between the ensemble cast. While Psych 3: This Is Gus' overall focus is on Gus' (Dulé Hill) journey toward marriage and fatherhood, the bond he has with Shawn (James Roday Rodriguez) remains a central theme. There's less psychic talk than in the original series, but Shawn's powers of observation remain highlighted, and contribute to the lively detective story. Psych enthusiasts will enjoy tuning in, and those new to the story world show may find themselves compelled to watch more.
