What's the Story?

REFRAMED: NEXT GEN NARRATIVES is a collection of six short indie movies, each of which reinterprets an iconic film through a contemporary lens. The adaptations of popular cinematic stories A Star Is Born, Calamity Jane, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rebel Without a Cause, The Adventures of Robin Hood, and The Prince and the Pauper expand each narrative to allow for the examination of the different ways our current society understands, portrays, and rejects identity in its many forms today.

Each of the creative movie shorts, which were produced by up-and-coming filmmakers to celebrate Warner Brothers' 100th anniversary, are adaptations of classic cinematic tales that explore contemporary notions of identity. From examining different attempts at cultural annihilation to witnessing a young man's struggle to understand his multiethnic self, each story is told from a point of view that's absent in the original. These narratives also highlight social issues, including institutional racism, urban gentrification, and a failed health care system. Some of the movies are more lighthearted than others, while a few offer more polished story worlds. All are smartly written and insightful, making Reframed: Next Gen Narratives a great foundation from which to start thoughtful conversations.
