Slow and boring but a winner for my 10 year old.

My son (10) loves this series so of course we were going to watch the spin-off. The original is definitely more adult oriented (work based, existentialism- not inherently bad for kids though) but this series was all fun and kid friendly. This series had enough things going on to cover a short movie or 2 episodes, but somehow they stretched it and paced it to last 8. It wasn’t a horrible series but the pacing just felt incredibly slow, for example during the conflict (lights went out right as the show begins, oh no l-what will they do?) the mechanic is the slowest walker on earth. It’s not played up for comedy at all, he’s just very slow and doesn’t seem to show any worry or rush to solve this problem and this doesn’t seem to bother any one. Then we have times when they cut to the next scene but it doesn’t flow correctly. I’m not sure if this is because of the animation style (stop motion) or if it is a Japanese thing I don’t understand, but the pace may not keep a child or adult interested unless they just love these characters and animation style. There is some potential here for kids. There is a story line of a girl who knows what she wants to do with her life but doesn’t know how to tell her parents. 2 adults who love their jobs and just want the park to stay open. Cute fluffy human size teddy bears that no one is shocked to see. There is no major scary conflict, there is no bad guy, it’s just a peaceful slice of life for a narrow range demographic. Might be great to fall asleep too for others.

Is It Any Good?

This series has sweet messages about the fun nature of serendipitous adventures. Rilakkuma's Theme Park Adventure is sure to be hit with fans of the beloved anime characters and the original Rilakkuma and Kaoru series. The show's soft color palette, stop-animation, and plush characters are unique and eye catching. However, the show's slower pace may not sustain show younger's viewers attention, and the lack of diverse characters on screen is somewhat disappointing. That said, you never know what adventures these quirky characters may go on next!
