Risqué Business: The Netherlands and Germany
What's the Story?
RISQUÉ BUSINESS: THE NETHERLANDS AND GERMANY, an installment of the South Korean Risqué Business franchise, is an exploration of Dutch and German sex culture and industry. Hosts Shin Dong-yup and Sung Si-kyung tour Amsterdam's red light district and interview sex workers, go to Berlin and meet dominatrixes, and even talk to German nudists. On occasion the two also participate some immersive experiences. What Sung and Shin encounter is very different from what they're used to back home, but all of it is interesting.
Is It Any Good?
This funny and informative reality series showcases some of the attitudes people have about sex in Dutch and German culture for South Korean viewers and others who live in places where sex is generally treated more conservatively. Risqué Business offers its share of amusing moments, mainly brought on by the awkwardness exhibited by the hosts when first learning about and witnessing different sexual experiences. However, both men are very respectful, and remain objective and nonjudgmental throughout. They are also very clear about the fact that not everyone in these countries share the same ideas or values being discussed by the people they meet with.
But while sex workers readily talk about the benefits of their work and the efforts made to make it safe, conversations about things like trafficking and objectification are barely addressed. The social rejection of folks that live differently, like a polyamorous family trio, is also just a brief topic of conversation. Nonetheless, adults who are curious about the subject matter will find Risqué Business: Netherlands and Germany entertaining.
