What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Roman to the Rescue is a reality show starring 10-year-old real-life dog rescuer Roman McConn. In each episode, Roman matches a dog with its fur-ever family. Parents may want to consider that this show is likely to inspire "can we get a dog?" questions -- so if that's not in your family's future, you may want to skip this one. Very sensitive dog lovers may ask why the dogs are being given up or need a new home, but the show treats this topic with sensitivity. There is very infrequent mild language like "butt," and some products shown on screen are identifiable even without a prominent logo. Otherwise, there's no iffy content. Roman's compassion is inspiring; he has helped more than 4,000 dogs find homes through his family's rescue organization.

What's the Story?
In ROMAN TO THE RESCUE, 10-year-old Roman McConn helps a new dog find an adoptive home in each episode. McConn has been doing rescue work for several years off camera, and was awarded the ASPCA "Kid of the Year" title in 2018. Each episode starts with Roman assessing the featured dog's personality, and what kind of family would be a good match for the dog. Roman then invites a Disney Channel star (like Isaac Ryan Brown) or a social media influencer to help him make an adoption video for the show. They post the video to help the dog find its new family. Roman interviews the prospective dog-owning kid and decides if it seems like they'll be a good fit. Adult real-life veterinarian Aziza Glass gives the dog a checkup, and then the dog boards a transport van to its new owners. Roman meets the dog at its new home and introduces the dog to its new fur-ever family.
Is It Any Good?
Dog-loving kids will be barking mad about this show, but other kids may find it a bit boring. The dogs are adorable, and kids will find it very inspiring that a 10-year-old can have such an impact. Roman to the Rescue is fairly slow paced, and spends a good portion of the show watching the kids film the dog's adoption video. Roman does this work in real life, but this reality show depicts a heavily produced, somewhat contrived version of what Roman and his family do every day with their rescue organization. Roman to the Rescue is cute and heartwarming, but it may only be compelling to animal-loving kids.
