RuPaul's Drag Race Global All Stars
What's the Story?
RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE GLOBAL ALL STARS is an international drag competition featuring contestants who appeared in RuPaul's Drag Race spin-offs around the world competing for a global title. RuPaul hosts 12 contestants, or "Glamazons," each of whom is representing a different country. Throughout each episode they compete in mini challenges and in a bigger, or "maxi," challenge, which are designed to let them showcase their individual talents, slay the runway with their personal styles, and win some cash "tips" (prizes). At the end of each episode the top two Glamazons face off in a lip-synch battle to earn the number one spot. Along with RuPaul, judges Michelle Visage and Jamal Sims offer contestants constructive critiques, pick the winners, and decide who to eliminate. The winner of the overall competition receives a dazzling crown and scepter, a year's supply of makeup, $200K, and a spot in the Drag Race Hall of Fame's International Pavilion.
Is It Any Good?
Upbeat, irreverent, and fun, RuPaul's Drag Race Global All Stars features all the campy glamour and over-the-top entertainment that one expects from any Drag Race installment. Guest judges like model Adriana Lima, Carson Kressley, and Graham Norton add to the fray. Meanwhile, many of the contestants have their own brand as drag performers, which results in some unique and well-performed acts. There aren't a lot of surprises here, but there are certainly a lot of laughs combined with positive messages about loving oneself and supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Fans of drag or the franchise won't be disappointed.
