Common Sense Media Review
Magical theme is charming, spooky but OK for most kids.

Scaredy Cats
What's the Story?
In SCAREDY CATS Willa Ward and her dad live in a town that holds some secrets -- secrets about witches. And when Willa turns 12, her dad gives her an amulet that her mom had left her when she passed away. Willa happily accepts it and proudly wears it around town. She soon learns that her amulet has magical powers, and that there are people (and animals) that want to take it from her. Will Willa find out more about her mysterious mom? Will she and her friends uncover the secrets behind the amulet?
Is It Any Good?
Coming from the makers of Air Bud, this series has the plucky animal sidekicks and goofy villains that you might expect; what it lacks is the acting talent of Kevin Zegers. The acting here isn't amazing: The adults play for laughs in ways that are a little too hammy, and the talking animals could take a lesson from Ratatouille. Scaredy Cats does offer lots of spells, adventure, and girl power. A mystical found object with glowing cat eyes that connects a child to her lost parent? Great premise -- one that's definitely familiar -- and magic is consistently intriguing to elementary school kids.
Kids might not be concerned about the less-than-great acting. Adults will probably pass on this one. But it's not too scary, there are some charming moments, and we could all use a little magic in our lives.

Willa and her friends show courage even when they are scared of situations that are frightening or challenging. In what ways are you courageous?
For her 12th birthday, Willa's dad gives her something "better than a cellphone." Can you make a list of things better than a cellphone?
