What's the Story?

In late 19th century London, famous detective Sherlock Holmes (David Thewlis) is happy to be working alone. But when young American Amelia Rojas (Blu Hunt) finds her way into 221b Baker Street claiming to be his daughter, his well-organized world is disrupted. Skeptical but sensing her skills, Sherlock gives her a chance to work on his latest case. How well will SHERLOCK & DAUGHTER work together to solve this and other mysteries? Time will tell.

While well-intentioned, this Sherlock series doesn't feel as fresh as it could. Sherlock & Daughter rehashes the detective's story once again, with the addition of a new character. Thewlis is a pretty solid Sherlock, and Hunt adds some energy as Amelia, but the writing just doesn't reach the heights of previous versions. The acting is also inconsistent, with some characters sounding more like stars of present-day CW shows than 19th century urchins and aristocrats.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about what makes a family. Whether Amelia is actually Sherlock's daughter remains to be seen, but their partnership is special. What defines family for you?

  • How many representations of Sherlock have you seen in media? Have you read the original stories? What do you think about this version of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic detective?
